Mopars in the Park

Midwest Mopars Club Elections - Results

On Saturday, August 14th the club held its monthly meeting at Flahertys bowl in Arden Hills and through a strict voting process that included all members that were present, as well as several mail in ballots, we elected a new club president and treasurer to succeed outgoing Club President Chad Hynes and outgoing club treasurer Dan Nielson. Without further delay I am proud to report that Dan Nielson is our new club president and Holly Patenaude is our new club treasurer. Please congratulate them the next time you see them and thank them for all that they do for the club. Dan has been a member since 1997 and club treasurer for the last 7 years and through that time has really shown a passion for the club and the hobby. Holly has been a member for the last 4 years and has assisted her husband, Dan, with show sponsorships as well as being the hospitality chairperson for the 2009 Mopars in the Park.

Chad will continue to serve the club by contributing monthly to the newsletter and working at the registration desk at Mopars in the Park car shows. Next time you see Chad at a car show be sure and thank him for his years of service to the club.

Did you know... Midwest Mopars is a non-profit club. Meaning that none of the board members or countless volunteers who help to put on the various events for the club throughout the year get paid. The club donates any extra money that it has accumulated throughout the year to various charities at the end of the year.

Mopars in the Park - Video update

There were many high lights of this year’s Midwest Mopars in the Park National Car Show and Swap Meet. So many that we decided to hire a professional film crew to capture them and produce a video for you to enjoy for years to come.

For example, Mr. Bob Cahill the father of Mopar and our Grand Marshall, Akron Arlen Vanke, Miss Mighty Mopar Judy Lilly, Don Grotheer, two of the Original Ramchargers Tom Coddington and Dave Rockwell, Mr. 4 Speed Herb McCandless and The California Flash Butch Leal reminiscing about the glory days of Mopar drag racing.

That circle of drag racing greats put together for almost an hour speaking candidly and poking fun at one another may never be assembled again. We knew it was going to be special and stir emotions – we weren’t wrong. Ever been to a Herb McCandless performance seminar? You’ll have one at your finger tips now as one of the greatest names in Super Stock freely gives out advice for getting the best out of your ride.

You’ll see the opening ceremony complete with the reunion of the Dick andy family and Dick’s ’67 Hemi Coronet – a great moment. Funny Car legends Roland Leong and Larry Reyes talk to the crowd and answer questions. All of this and more in one almost 2 hour long DVD that will be available to you soon. Watch for updates and your opportunity to purchase this great collectible at the club store!
