NEWS FROM THE NORTH SIDE
We headed out early afternoon for Monster Mopar at Indy. Drove most of the way there before stopping for the night. Our room was in Brownsburg just off the freeway and about 20 minutes from the track. The one thing we noticed was that there was no sign of any Mopar show going on. Carlisle and the Nats have lots of cars in the motels around the track the day before the event but not here.
We took a ride out to the track and it was pretty dead there also. A few tents and a couple vendors setting up. No action so we decided to see a movie at the theater just down the street from our motel. After the movie we went back to the room and later we met up with WWNBOA members Sue and Ed George (Boon IA) along with Mike and Joyce Partridge (Sparta MI) for supper. When they pulled in with their Daytona and Superbird they were the first cars we had seen that looked like the type of vehicles that had come for the show.
Friday morning we headed for the track and things were looking up. There was a steady stream of cars coming into the show field and the swap meet had filled up. Josh King the promoter set up a special parking area for our WWNBOA group on the main entrance road which worked out great as we could watch all the cars coming and going throughout the day.
The drag racing pits were really full and the track had such good bite there was comments about a lot of breakage and going through the pits you saw a lot of cars with axles out and third members being changed. Seemed like more than normal. In the afternoon we were aloud on the circle track and a good time was had by all.
At St Louis there was a pace truck and way too many rules. Here there was no pace truck just a short drivers meeting telling everybody to be safe and use common sense. We were allowed on the track for what seemed like forever and some drivers pulled off early because they were running out of gas. All seemed to really enjoy and there was some good racing on the track pushing their cars close to the limit. Everyone kept a cool head and kept things safe.
We would just like to give a big THANKS to Josh for making this a great show and we hope to see more Midwest Mopar members out there next year. Unfortunately we have not had a chance to attend any of the Midwest Mopar activities our Duluth chapter has put on but we hope to make a meeting yet this fall. From what we have heard things are going well and their first show was quite a success.
Next summer we should work on getting a group up to the Duluth area. When we hosted the WWNBOA meet up there the guys who helped us are the same ones now in the Duluth chapter and they really put forth the effort to make our national event a success.
Till Next Month
